German Shepherd Falls 50ft
A police dog falls 50ft on to concrete and only gets a broken toenail. Yader a two year old German shepherd jump a 4ft wall as he was searching for a car thief, he didn't see the sheer drop on the other side. His owner said the worst was hearing him land in 4ft of water running over a drainage channel. Yader was lifted by a police helicopter and taken to a vet, and giving the all clear. Yader will resume his duties soon.

Sniffed Dog Died Of Nasal Cancer

Max a Springer spaniel won fame in retirement when he was fitted with rear wheels to ease his arthritis. His employer Avon at Somerset Police confirmed that Max died last week at the age of nine, from nasal cancer.
There are concerns that Max died due to his seven years as a drug dog, sniffing out hidden cocaine and other drugs. A statement from the force said: Vets have stressed that Max’s death was not connected to his work. David Holmes from Golden Valley Vets, said, while nasal cancer is not a common cancer, it is not rare in Springer spaniels and other breeds.
Max retired in 2007 due to arthritis and hip dysphasia after a long career rooting out narcotics across Bristol and the West Country. He went to live with Mike and Anne two police inspectors in Devon. We miss him and are heartbroken at his passing. He was a wonderful dog; it was a privilege to know him. He was a real testament to all the hard working dogs. There is a fund being set up in Max’s honour, this will be used to help rescued dogs to achieve their potential either with an operation or mental stimulation.

Mail Banned Because of Dog Attack
Mail has stopped being delivered at Bradford Street after a post man had to run from a bull mastiff. The post man was not bitten by the dog but had to jump a fence. The residents find it hard and unfair as the whole street is being punished, and they have to travel six miles to collect their mail.
Royal Mail is working with the dog owner, and delivery will resume when the dog is secure and there is no longer any danger to the staff.

Dog Lover's Please Click To Help Dogs

Hi, all you animal lovers.
This is pretty simple... Please tell ten friends to each tell a further ten today!
The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute (about 15 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals for free'.
This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.
Here's the web site! Please pass it along to people you know. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/

Dogs Can Be Much More Than Just Friends
It never amazes me what dogs can be trained to do. A guide dog in County Durham saves her owner's life on a daily basis by detecting whether he is close to a diabetic collapse.
Zeta was being trained as a guide dog but accident cursed her to go lame, so could not carry on. Her owner Kearton then decided to train her to help her husband. Zeta had save Kearton husband on more than one occasion.
Zeta was trained to traces the differences in her husband’s sweat, which would be either high or low in blood sugar; this was done on a ball of a handkerchief. Zeta learned to detect the difference in the smell and was rewarded with a treat. It took about two weeks for her learn what she had to do, to alert Kearton husband that his sugar was low, so he took his medication. She is not always 100% accurate but she seems to understand she needs to act on the side of caution.

Online Animal Chat Room
I am thinking of starting a chat room, but this will only be possible if I get people that are interested in chatting about dogs/animals in general. It’s not always easy to connect with other animal lover or dog owners. Non dog owners don’t understand your commitment and the need to talk “dog”. There fore I thought it would be great to get an online community of dog and animal lovers chatting about their beloved pet. If the room dose well I will look into starting quizes ect. If you would be interested in joining a chat room like this, please email me, you will find our contact details on the website, or leave a comment to this blog.

Illegal Dog Fights

Illegal dog fighting has become so bad in Britain that charity have been holding meetings on how to tackle the problem. The RSPCA have received almost treble the number of calls about dog fighting last year compared to the previous year.
Dog owners are using their dog as weapons to intimidate and threaten others as well as dog fighting. 132 complaints referred to youths or hoodies using their dogs in fights. The concern is that talk of dog fighting promotes images of ‘dangerous’ or ‘devil’ dogs, but in most cases it is the owner who is causing the problem, not the dog. All dogs can be trained to be aggressive, just as all dogs can be loving family pets.

Dog Rescued From Frozen Lake
Dog owners are being warned to keep their dogs on lead while exercising near ponds or frozen lakes.
A black Labrador called Bella, was rescued from an island in the middle of a lake by fire crews after falling through ice on a frozen lake in Swindon, Wiltshire, while out walking with her owner.
