Accessory Madness

It makes me mad when I read things like this

The latest must-have accessory for New Yorkers with too much money and too little space or sense is a "puggle": a cross between a pug dog and a beagle.
The smaller the puggle, the higher its price, with some dogs as tiny as a foot long and weighing only a stone selling for as much as £550.

I would like to remind people (famous people) that crossing breeds can create problem with the health of the dog. These are living breathing animals not accessory to boost your ego. It has already been proven that messing about mixing different breed can course health problems. It seems some people have more money than sense and care so little about the right and wrongs when it comes to looking good.

People in the public eye like Hames Gndolfini, Jake Gyllenhaal, Julianne Moore and Sylvester Stallone should realise what they do, say, or wear has an influence with the public so they should be an example when it come to thing that need our help, to make sure that we as humans take care and look after thing like nature and life, weather its our life or an animals. In one hand we get famous people doing work for charities around the world for people and animals, and then on the other hand they are paying £550 pounds for a designer dog. Get a grip you don’t need a dead or living designer accessory for your fans to love you.

London dog owner Glynis Walker has told of her anger at finding out no action will be taken against police and kennels involved in the “care” of her pet dog Kodee who was returned to her cut, sore, smelling and riddled with worms.
Ms Walker made an official complaint following the return of her dog he spent nearly 4 months in secure kennels as a banned “pit bull type”. She was so horrified by the condition of her dog she took pictures showing the cuts to his muzzle, worm infested faeces, sore scrotum and oversized and sore tattoo.
More than one year after the return of her dog and complaining to the RSPCA, Ms Walker received a copy of a memo between the RSPCA and the Met police. The memo was sent from the RSPCA to the Met police but Ms Walker was not told of the outcome until three months AFTER the police had received the memo.
The memo stated that the RSPCA had finished their investigation and found that the complaints of unnecessary suffering are” unfounded”. Ms Walker is also angry that the memo from the RSPCA she has received states she agreed with this conclusion.
Ms Walker said “Why on earth would I agree the complaints are unfounded when I have been fighting on Kodees behalf for the last 15 months? Kodee came home cut, sore and it should be clear to anyone that this is not acceptable. Had I caused or allowed those injuries I would expect to be charged but it seems to be one rule for dog owners and another for the police and kennels holding our dogs. I am very unhappy and intend to take this further.”
In a bid to prevent similar happening to other dogs Ms Walker made an official complaint to the RSPCA and started a Facebook group “cruelty to dogs in police care” which now has almost 2000 members. Welfare of dogs particularly within the London area has been of grave concern for some time as dogs continue to come home underweight, smelling and with “extreme” tattoos. Freedom of Information requests show that 1-2 dogs are dying from illness on average every week while being held within the Met area.

I have heard a few sad stories like this to do with kennels, and I have one of my own that put me off using kennels, but that just one person opinion. If you have any stories about kennels looking after your dog, good or bad let us know and we may put them on the blog.

Microchip Your Pet

Waltham Forest Council and Battersea dogs and cats home are asking dog and cat owners to have their pet’s microchipped. Last year there were 209 pets from this borough alone taken to Battersea, because their owners could not be traced. This number could be reduce if their pets where microchipped. Responsible ownership means microchipping as well as having an up to date tag, so that your pet can be easily traced back to you. Since October 2001 the council has microchip 2,000 pets in Waltham Forest and they run regular microchipping sessions across the borough. An animal warden inserts the microchip, its quick, painless and permanent. It helps identity and returns your pet quickly if it goes missing. The cost is £15 per pet, for more information about microchips or the session call 020 8496 3000 and ask for the Council’s Animal Warden.

How proud I am of Mica

I took Mica to her training class to day (Monday 24th February) for the first time since she finished her season, plus there were a few weeks where other things were going on, so it has been about 7 weeks since the last time she went. Mica made me so proud, even the trainers was so impressed they ask me to do a demonstration doing heel work with her. She did great with her leave it, down stays and waits too. I do 10 to 15 minutes training a day with Mica, making sure she enjoys her training, and it’s been very rewarding for me too seeing how she has progress.

Puppy falls down a 200ft quarry fall

A little seven-month-old cocker spaniel call Dotty fell more than 200ft over a cliff into a flooded quarry. She was chasing a bird near her home in Chepstow, Monmouthshire and tumbled over the cliff edge. Dotty bounced three times of the cliff before hitting the cold icy water.

A sub-aqua team she Dotty splash land and helped her, one of the team lifted Dotty to safety and then gave her oxygen from their tanks. Her own Keli Beamon climbed down to the quarry expecting to find dead. But was sperprised when Dotty leapt into her arms unscathed. I can’t believe it, it’s a miracle she survived the fall alone.

Terry Birtles the diving group leader said “she is one lucky dog, how she survied a fall like that. We got her out of the water, she was in shock but there was no physical damage. We gave her some oxygen and wrapped her in a blanket to keep her warm. We are so amazed she made such a quick recovery.

Cliff Dog Too Vicious To Rescue

A Collie cross had to remain stranded on a cliff ledge for a second night. Falmouth Coastguard was unable to rescue the dog as he became too aggressive. The elderly dog received an injury to a back leg when he fell off the cliff of the Cornish coast. It is believed the RSPCA will attempt to sedate the dog today to help rescue him, as they are better equipped to deal with such situations.

Pet Travel Scheme

It is that time of year when most of us are think of your holidays, but we mustn’t for get a four legged friends. Some of you will be lucky to have family or friends that will look after your pets for you. But for most of us it’s finding good kennels and catteries. Most kennels and catteries will also look after small pets as well I.e rabbits, mice ect.
There are also places called "Home from Home" where they look after your dog, one to one in their home. I will be adding more information on each of these places mentioned here. For anything else like reptiles you will find that most places that sell reptiles will do boarding.

If you are looking to take your pet on holiday with you and you are paining to go abroad you need to make sure you know the system that allows pets, the best place to start is with “The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is the system that allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets from certain countries to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules. It also means that people in the UK can take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other European Union (EU) countries, and return with them to the UK. They can also, having taken their dogs, cats and ferrets to certain non-EU countries, bring them back to the UK without the need for quarantine. The rules are to keep the UK free from rabies and certain other diseases.
The European regulation which sets the rules for dogs, cats and ferrets to travel between European Community countries and into the Community from other countries also covers the movement of other pet animals:
It is against the law in Great Britain to possess certain types of animals and meeting the requirements of PETS will not change that.

Held Captive As A Tourist Attraction

In Romania hunting has resulted in orphaned baby bears being exploited all their lives by individuals as tourist attractions and pets. Now Romania has joined the EU. By joining the EU they have to abide by new laws such as the EU Zoo Directive. Many zoos in Romania are poorly managed and are unable to implement these changes and need to find new homes for their bears who would otherwise be euthanised (put to sleep)

We rescure these bears and it really is a case of life and death, with out the WSPA sanctuary as their new home, many of these bears would simply not live.
WSPA's bear sanctuary is an oasis for bears, designed to encourage their natural behaviour. There are pools for swimming, food scattered around to get them foraging, trees to climb and places where the bears can make dens.

So what you can do...

Just £3 a month could help maintain pools and dens that allow rescued bears to swim and express their natural behaviour.

For more inforamtion on how to help these wonderful animals go too

Baby boy 'killed by family dogs'

A baby boy has died after what is believed to be an attack by two family dogs.
Neighbours said three-and-a-half-month-old Jaden Mack was staying with his grandmother at the time. Jaden was taken in the early hours from the house in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly county, to hospital, where he was declared dead.
A Jack Russell and Staffordshire bull terrier are believed to have caused the injuries, and they have been put down.

Adult female family member" who was caring for Jaden at the time was taken to hospital to be treated for shock. Jaden's parents were not at the address at the time. Officers will speak to her later about the attack, which happened in the downstairs living area. No arrests have been made. The dogs were taken from the home and police said the decision was taken in conjunction with the family to humanely destroy the animals.

Gwent Police family liaison officers are currently supporting and assisting the family through this difficult time. "The family wish to be left alone to grieve.
"Although the exact circumstances of the baby's death are yet to be established, we would like to reiterate the advice given to dog owners that dogs should never be left unsupervised with young children at any time."

God lives in the Post Office

Who ever this person is, you have a heart of gold.

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith
_________________________________

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith , ' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

_____________________________________

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I' m easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love, God

Dog Cloned By BioArts

BioArts International announced today that they have delivered the world’s first cloned dog, a 10 week old Labrador named Lancey to residents in Florida. Edgar and Nina Otto can’t believe they have little Lancey in their family. Lancey predecessor was a very special dog, we are so thrilled beyond words. Lancey was hand delivered on January 26th. The Ottos were one of five families to bid and win for a chance to clone their family dog. Lancey’s genetic donor, Sir Lancelot, died in January, 2008, and the Ottos had his DNA stored. By October, samples from the original dog were on their way.
