In Romania hunting has resulted in orphaned baby bears being exploited all their lives by individuals as tourist attractions and pets. Now Romania has joined the EU. By joining the EU they have to abide by new laws such as the EU Zoo Directive. Many zoos in Romania are poorly managed and are unable to implement these changes and need to find new homes for their bears who would otherwise be euthanised (put to sleep)
We rescure these bears and it really is a case of life and death, with out the WSPA sanctuary as their new home, many of these bears would simply not live.
WSPA's bear sanctuary is an oasis for bears, designed to encourage their natural behaviour. There are pools for swimming, food scattered around to get them foraging, trees to climb and places where the bears can make dens.
So what you can do...
Just £3 a month could help maintain pools and dens that allow rescued bears to swim and express their natural behaviour.
