Waltham Forest Council and Battersea dogs and cats home are asking dog and cat owners to have their pet’s microchipped. Last year there were 209 pets from this borough alone taken to Battersea, because their owners could not be traced. This number could be reduce if their pets where microchipped. Responsible ownership means microchipping as well as having an up to date tag, so that your pet can be easily traced back to you. Since October 2001 the council has microchip 2,000 pets in Waltham Forest and they run regular microchipping sessions across the borough. An animal warden inserts the microchip, its quick, painless and permanent. It helps identity and returns your pet quickly if it goes missing. The cost is £15 per pet, for more information about microchips or the session call 020 8496 3000 and ask for the Council’s Animal Warden.
