Puppy Dies at Grooming Parlour

A family is distraught after leaving their Shih tzu puppy (like the one in the pic) at a grooming parlour in Pet's at Home. Travis Melton age 15 left the dog at the parlour to be groomed but when returning to pick her up 90 minutes later, was told his pet had died.

Daisy had died in unbearable heat while in a drying cage after having her fur cut, washed and then dried. The boy tried to phone his parents to break the sad news, but he was to upset to speak, so the manager of the store in Sheffeld, South Yorkshire, had to break the news that Daisy had died in an accident.

Sarah the mother, said a member of the staff was about to go on their lunch break had put Daisy in a drying cage and asked two other colleagues to keep an eye on her. But sadly no one did anything and she was literally "cooked"

She was in a shocking state when Sarah saw her body, she must have gone through hell and a lot of pain. If they was keeping an eye on her, they would have heard her whimpering. Daisy died after choking on her own vomit, she had now been cremated. The two staff at Pets at Home have been suspended and an investigation has been launched.

Berlin Bears

Schnute and Maxi, mother and daughter, are both European brown bears that have been housed in the bear pit since their birth: 1981 and 1986 respectively. The two bears are usually seen to repeatedly pace up and down their enclosure with an occasional twist of the head, a common behavioural disorder observed in bears in captivity. Many Berliners are unaware of their existence and are horrified when they are discovered. Many of those who know the plight of Schnute and Maxi want them rehomed elsewhere.

Many people have written to help to rehome these bears but we still need more help, for more information about these bears and what you can do to help go to:- http://www.bornfree.org.uk/get-involved/campaigning/letter-writing/

Lungworm in Dog's

This lungworm is a parasite carried by slugs and snails. Lungworm, Angiostrongylus vasorum (also known as French Heartworm) is a parasite that nfects dogs. The adult of this particular lungwarm lives in the heart and major blood vessels supplying the lungs, and can cause a host of problems and it can be fatal.

Your dog accidentally eats these common garden pests when rummaging in the undergrowth and eating grass or drinking from puddles, outdoor water bowls or even when they pick up their toys. Foxes can also become infected with the lungworm, and even have been implicated in the spead of the parasite across the country.

A dog infected with lungworm can cuase serious health problems in dogs and is often fatal if not diagnosed and treted. The parasite can be sprea into the environment, as the larvae of the parasite are expelled in the dog's faeces, this incrases the chances of other dogs becoming infected.

Pair Jailed For Attacking On Police Officers with Dogs

Mehmet Koc, 19, and Matthew Joannou, 20, both of North London have been jailed for five years for useing their dogs to savage plice officers. Pc Scott Tiffin suffered horrific injouries in the attack in September 2009.

They both admitted causing grievous bodily harm and unloawful wounding and having a dog sangerously out of control in a public place. The to man allowed their two dogs to attack Pc Tiffin after he came off duty in Wood Green after he worked at the Notting Hill carnival.

As they walked past him Hoannou said "I'm going to get my dog to kill you" and then ordered the tan coloured animal to attack. Pc Tiffin was taken to the North Middlesex Hospital with bite wounds to his right leg, knee and right arm.

Judge Simon Carr told Koc and Joannou that the attack was an inevitable escalation of owning an aggressive dog. He said "This is a type of offence which is causing increasing, legitmate concern in the public. Koc and Joannou were also banned from keeping any dog for 10 years. The sad thing is the two animals involved in the attack have been destroyed, due to bed owners who don;t take care and the right responsabliaty in look after a dog.
