No Such Thing as the Dog Poo Fairy

Little Aimme Langdon slipped off the slide and danced merrily toward the playground gate. Then the two year old tripped and fell to the ground beside some dog poop. Moments later she wiped her left eye with her hand, transfering some of the faeces to her face.
Mum Suzanne was just yards away but too late to stop her child catching an infection which has now claimed most of the sight in that left eye.
Please please pick up your dog poo and worm your dog reguarly to STOP this from happening.

Rise in Abandoned puppies in the UK

In the last 12 months the number of puppies being abandoned has doubled according to statisitcs. Dog between the ages of 7 weeks and 12 months has suggested that dog owners are taking on dogs they can't look after. Financial hardship and relationship breakdowns are the two most common reasons for dog being abandoned and especially over the last two years this has raised due to the recession.

100,000 dogs currently residing in the UK's over stretched welfare system which cost animal charitys £6.65 aday. Battersea Dogs and Cats Home recently announced they are putting to sleep many healthy dogs as they struggle to cope with the number of surrendered animals.

To try and encourage dog lovers to consider adopting, DogBlog.com and Butcher's Pet Care, are going to launch National Dog Adoption Month this September with the emphasis on spreading the message that breed research is the most essential preparation any potential dog owner can do. Understanding the needs and requirements fo particular/specific breeds enables event the most experienced owner to make a better judgement about their campatibility and lifestyle for a new dog.

Failing to do proper research on their choice of dog and a growth in irresponsible breeders/suppliers of dogs and exploiting the lack of regulation in prodcuing dogs at wholesale levels.

Its so sad that we live in a must-have-it-now society, where people often don't think before getting a dog. They don't tak the time to really plan what breed, age or even whether they can provide for the dog, they just go out and get one. It is often a situation where the needs of a certain breed are not matched correctly witht he owner's lifestyle and th cycle of misery and abandonment is perpetuated for he poor dogs.

Puppy Dies at Grooming Parlour

A family is distraught after leaving their Shih tzu puppy (like the one in the pic) at a grooming parlour in Pet's at Home. Travis Melton age 15 left the dog at the parlour to be groomed but when returning to pick her up 90 minutes later, was told his pet had died.

Daisy had died in unbearable heat while in a drying cage after having her fur cut, washed and then dried. The boy tried to phone his parents to break the sad news, but he was to upset to speak, so the manager of the store in Sheffeld, South Yorkshire, had to break the news that Daisy had died in an accident.

Sarah the mother, said a member of the staff was about to go on their lunch break had put Daisy in a drying cage and asked two other colleagues to keep an eye on her. But sadly no one did anything and she was literally "cooked"

She was in a shocking state when Sarah saw her body, she must have gone through hell and a lot of pain. If they was keeping an eye on her, they would have heard her whimpering. Daisy died after choking on her own vomit, she had now been cremated. The two staff at Pets at Home have been suspended and an investigation has been launched.

Berlin Bears

Schnute and Maxi, mother and daughter, are both European brown bears that have been housed in the bear pit since their birth: 1981 and 1986 respectively. The two bears are usually seen to repeatedly pace up and down their enclosure with an occasional twist of the head, a common behavioural disorder observed in bears in captivity. Many Berliners are unaware of their existence and are horrified when they are discovered. Many of those who know the plight of Schnute and Maxi want them rehomed elsewhere.

Many people have written to help to rehome these bears but we still need more help, for more information about these bears and what you can do to help go to:- http://www.bornfree.org.uk/get-involved/campaigning/letter-writing/

Lungworm in Dog's

This lungworm is a parasite carried by slugs and snails. Lungworm, Angiostrongylus vasorum (also known as French Heartworm) is a parasite that nfects dogs. The adult of this particular lungwarm lives in the heart and major blood vessels supplying the lungs, and can cause a host of problems and it can be fatal.

Your dog accidentally eats these common garden pests when rummaging in the undergrowth and eating grass or drinking from puddles, outdoor water bowls or even when they pick up their toys. Foxes can also become infected with the lungworm, and even have been implicated in the spead of the parasite across the country.

A dog infected with lungworm can cuase serious health problems in dogs and is often fatal if not diagnosed and treted. The parasite can be sprea into the environment, as the larvae of the parasite are expelled in the dog's faeces, this incrases the chances of other dogs becoming infected.

If you think your dog has worms please take your dog/puppy to the vet. For more information on worms lick this link http://doggy-b-good.com/page79.php

Pair Jailed For Attacking On Police Officers with Dogs

Mehmet Koc, 19, and Matthew Joannou, 20, both of North London have been jailed for five years for useing their dogs to savage plice officers. Pc Scott Tiffin suffered horrific injouries in the attack in September 2009.

They both admitted causing grievous bodily harm and unloawful wounding and having a dog sangerously out of control in a public place. The to man allowed their two dogs to attack Pc Tiffin after he came off duty in Wood Green after he worked at the Notting Hill carnival.

As they walked past him Hoannou said "I'm going to get my dog to kill you" and then ordered the tan coloured animal to attack. Pc Tiffin was taken to the North Middlesex Hospital with bite wounds to his right leg, knee and right arm.

Judge Simon Carr told Koc and Joannou that the attack was an inevitable escalation of owning an aggressive dog. He said "This is a type of offence which is causing increasing, legitmate concern in the public. Koc and Joannou were also banned from keeping any dog for 10 years. The sad thing is the two animals involved in the attack have been destroyed, due to bed owners who don;t take care and the right responsabliaty in look after a dog.

The puppy love for Kym Marsh is over

Kym fell in love with Labrador cross puppy call Oliver. He appeared in a feature about dog abandoned over Christmas on This Morning show, but her other dog Chihuahua Charlie was not happy with the new arrival.

The pair did not bond so she has been forced to hand over Oliver to a friend. Oliver was rather to enthusiastic and boisterous for the older pet. Play was getting rather rough and was upsetting Charlie who is the older and a bit grumpy. Oliver was a proper handful, he had a difficult background he needed some serious training and socialisation. Kym is sorry he had to go and she is embarrassed about the whole thing.

If you are thinking of introducting a new pet to your home, then there is a lot to think about. You have to make sure you are prepared, for more information click on link http://doggy-b-good.com/page110.php

Cesar Millian's UK Tour

I had a great time up in Manchster where I went to see Cesar Milllan. I have watched him at work on TV and read some of his books. But the one thing that I really like about Cesar is he works with the nature of the dog, the natural way a dog see us and his role within our lives. Cesar works to give the dog the balance they need and should have, to have a happy and healthy live with us. He trains people how to be a good a responsable owner. What I see is his love of Mother Nature and the balance that Mother Nature needs to make things work in the animal world, and what is needed to have a happy balance for the relationship between a dog and its owner/s. If you have seen Cesar Millian and you have any comments about his shows, then let us hear about it.

What is Tilicum the Whales Future

After reading a letter about Tilicum the whales at this link below, I wanted to reply but was unable, unless I registered, so I put my view here

It’s very had to understand what is going on in the mind of an animal when it attacks. No matter how much we learn about each animal, there body language for instance. We still can’t say for sure, what they are thinking or feeling every minute of the day. When we take a wild animal away from its natural habitat no matter for what reason, we are doing much more than taking its freedom. With an orca (whale) they live in pods, have a family. We have to understand this and take on the responsible that comes with it, even the dangers. Man has done more horrors in this world, and most of the time they get away with it, or if punished, it dose not always comply with the crime they have done, and some of these crimes they are still doing for their own gain.

Yes this instance of a human tragedy cannot be ignored, but to even think of euthanizing Tilicum is wrong, also it’s a lot harder to release an orca back to the wild. We as human are suppose be more intelligent and compassionate. The life of Tilicum was taken long ago when he was taken from the wild; and his family. He has been trained to do tricks for people to watch, and yes, he is well looked after, but stop to think how you would feel being taken away from everything you know and put in a tank and trained to perform. Not every human can cope with being locked up in prison, some have even kill them selves your attacked other prison inmates and officers, do we euthanizes them, so how can we think every animal (whale) is going to be happy in a tank or cage.

Seaworld Trainer Die's

Dawn Brancheau, 40 was killed when a bull orca named Tilikum jump out of the water and grabbed her by the waist then pulled her underwater, no one knows why the whale attack. Tilikum is one of three whales that has been blamed for killing a trainer in 1991 at Sealand of the Paciffic in Victoria, British Columbia. A man's body was also found draped over Tilikum at Orlando Seaworld in July 1999.

Daniel Dukes made his way past security at Seaworld, he either jumed, fell or was pulled into the Tilikum's tank.

Dawn Brancheau had just finished explaining to the audience about the show they was going to see when the attack happened. Visitors were evacuated from the park, and the park closed. It is very sad when attacks like this happens, and the trainers who work with these wonderful mammals understand more than anyone, that at heart, no matter how much training they do they are wild animals and there are risks . The love and devotion the trainers have for this mammals, bring us understanding and knowlege about these curtures. Dan Brown the park's general manager said Dawn "was one of our most experienced animal trainers"

Man Is Sentenced Over Guide Dog Attack

John-Jo Madden, 18 of Gospel Oak in north west London, is banned from keeping dogs for 10 years by magistrates on Tuesday. His dog a terrier type dog badly wounded a blind women's guide dog. His dog ran out of control in an underpass at Cricklewood railway station last year.

Detective Constable Gerry Griffin, of the British Transport Police (BTP) said, this case sends a very strong message about the responsibilities of being a dog owner. Police have warned dog owners to keep their dogs under control.

It's the responsibility of dog owners to make sure they understand the DOG LAWS. Having a dog is more responsibility than just taking it for a walk and feeding it.

We all need to stop attacks like this from happening, one is to keep your dog on a lead and under control. No matter what breed or size dog you have, training is a good thing to do for you and your dog. Training can help you understand your dog better, and help you have your dog under control. Your dog also benefits from training too. Its helps to socialises your dog, gets your dog using its brains, (yes your dog dose have a brain). Training can build up a good relationship between you both.
