£100,000 on a Clone Dog

A couple from Florida has spent more than £100,000 on a clone of their deceased pet Labrador. Ed and Nina Otto’s late pet dog Lancelot died of cancer in January 2008. They could not bear life without their beloved dog, so they place a £108,000 bid on a biotech firm’s dog-cloning auction last July. BioArts International created Lancelot Encore in South Korea, where he was born ten weeks ago.

He is back with us as much as we could probably expect when ever you get back someone who died, said Cloned dog owner Nica Otto. He is the first single birth commercially cloned puppy in the United States. Sir Lancelots blood was nice and healthy when they too his DNA and froze it. A lot of people would say that it a lot of money to spend and its ridiculous, but it wasn’t just a dog, it was Lancelot.

The Ottos already have eight other dogs, but with 12 acres of land they felt they had more than enough room for another pet. It is great to be able to have your best friend back with you said Ed Otto.
