The Evolution of the Dog

Most people believe that the oldest ancestor to the dog is the wolf (Canis lupus), but if we go back further to the Eocene era a small weasel like carnivore called Miacis lived in the forest approximately 40 million years ago. It had a long tail. Its limbs where short. The Miacis teeth came to be called the carnassial teeth, taking on the characteristic shape. Therefore the Miacis is the oldest known ancestor of the domestic dog. But the interest between dog and wolf will always be appealing,I know which evolution story I would find intresting.
