A dog owner died after his two rottweiler dogs prevented emergency service reaching him. A member of the public alerted Police about two dog acting aggressively at Clay Flats Industrial estate in Workington on Friday.
The unnamed man was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead. Police officers, fire fighters and paramedics said the dogs were trying to attack them as they approached the man, lying on the path next to a metal fence and railway track.
Police spokeswoman said “Officers were unable to approach the man as the dogs were guarding the body and trying to attack anyone who attempted to get close.
"In order to gain access to the man officers were forced to shoot dead one of the animals.” The second dog was located nearby, but due to its aggressive behaviour had to be destroyed by a vet."
