Comforting Embrace

Why isn't this all over the news? If he had done something wrong, it would be!
Air Force Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt, of the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group at Balad, Iraq, Cradles a young girl as they both sleep in the hospital. The girl’s entire family was executed by Insurgents; the killers shot her in the head as well. The girl received treatment at the U.S. military hospital in Balad, but cries and moans often. According to nurses at the facility, Gebhardt is the only one who can calm down the girl, so he has spent the last several night holding her while they both sleep in a chair.

Man Hanged Dog May Face Jail
Christopher Collyer, 25 hang his mother and fathers dog Charlie, a white and brown Springer spaniel after they were evicted. He clams that he was told to “dump” Charlie. He denied killing the six year old dog, he told the court he had given Charlie away to an unknown woman with another Springer spaniel who he meet in a field.
Charlie was found hanging by his lead in woods in Keighley, it was a horrific scene said Inspector Dave Holgate; the poor dog must have suffered for so long before it died, its little paws were just touching the ground.
Christopher Collyer, of Kings Crescent, Morecambe, Lancashire, was found guilty of three charges at Bradford Magistrates' Court of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, failing to provide treatment of a chronic skin condition and failing to ensure the animal’s needs were met.
The court heard he was looking after Charlie and a Japanese akita while his parents moved into their new home in Keighley, when they were told they could only keep one dog. Shasta Asghar, chair of the bench, adjourned sentencing and told Collyer all options would be considered, including custody.
The court heard that his parents have pleaded guilty to two charges each of causing unnecessary suffering to Charlie.
They will be sentenced with their son at Bradford Magistrates' Court on 15 April.
Speaking after the verdict, the RSPCA inspector who found Charlie said it was the worst case he had seen in 15 years.

A dog owner jumped from pier at Port Talbot after his his dog who later escaped unharmed from the sea. Coastguards and lifeboats scrambled to the scene after several passers by call emergency services.
But a surfer managed to get to the 44 year old man and managed to get him to the shore, when he saw him getting into difficulties. Coastguard warned the public not to risk their own lives attempting to rescue their dogs. Dogs are very resilient and often make their own way back. Please if you feel; that your dog is in trouble and can’t make it back, then call 999 and ask for the coastguard, please don’t risk your own life. The man was very luck that so many people and the surfer were in the vicinity. This time it was a good outcome and the surfer got to him quickly.

A dog owner died after his two rottweiler dogs prevented emergency service reaching him. A member of the public alerted Police about two dog acting aggressively at Clay Flats Industrial estate in Workington on Friday.

One of Many Wonder Dogs

Edward a 2 year old golden retriever is a lifesaver for his owner Wendy Hillings age 59 from West Yelland, near Barnstaple. Wendy suffers from a condition which leaves her skin very fragile and prone to blistering badly, and also has throat problems which can lead to her being unable to breathe.
Edward helps her with every day tasks like taking her cost off, emptying the washing machine and retrieving money from the cash machine. He has also fetched help when she had breathing problems. Edward has been with Wendy since he was nine weeks old and has been trained to obey more than 100 commands.
He has transformed my life; he has gone for help if I have needed it in the middle of the night, waking my husband. Edward takes the pressure off my husband; it’s nice that my husband can go out with me as my husband and not as my carer. As a carer Edward gets direct payment from Devon County Council to help with his upkeep. Edward was provided to help Wendy by the charity Canine Partners, giving people like Wendy a fuller life. There are 300 people on the charity waiting list for dogs like Edward.

The Evolution of the Dog

Most people believe that the oldest ancestor to the dog is the wolf (Canis lupus), but if we go back further to the Eocene era a small weasel like carnivore called Miacis lived in the forest approximately 40 million years ago. It had a long tail. Its limbs where short. The Miacis teeth came to be called the carnassial teeth, taking on the characteristic shape. Therefore the Miacis is the oldest known ancestor of the domestic dog. But the interest between dog and wolf will always be appealing,I know which evolution story I would find intresting.

Get Tough on Dog Fighters, NOT Dogs!

Dog fighting is on the increase and the police and RSPCA will tackle it. Well they need to do something and soon. Dog lovers like me get very angry about this cruel sport that these bloods thirsty people find amusing, these people are scum and jail would be a holiday to them. Maybe these people should find out what its like to have a dog they have trained bite and rip them apart, let them feel the pain that these dogs feel when they are fighting. Some people will say that’s a bit extreme, WELL WAKE UP PEOPLE, I AM ANGRY.
When I read article after article about dog fighting and read the striped sentencing that dog fighters get, like Mr Manawar Hussain, 37, from Bevington Road, Aston was found guilty of two charges of possessing a dangerous dog and two charges of training an animal in connection with fighting. Hussain was sentenced to 18 days in prison, and banned from keeping animals for life. The district judge Shamin Qureshi said: "If you want to go out and torture innocent animals then you can expect to go to prison.” Dog fighting is so prevalent in Birmingham I have to make an example of you. THIS SENTENCE IS A JOKE, even if he dose 18 days, he will find a way of getting dogs again. It doesn’t stop his wife, mother, brother, lodger having a dog and certainly doesn’t stop him from abusing another dog again. Where is the lengthy prison time, the hefty fine?
But the sad part is what happens to the dogs? Well the dogs are always destroyed, after suffering like hell they are destroyed. I do understand that dogs that fight would never be able to have a normal life with families, but what about trying to re-train them as working dogs, give them a chance, isn’t that what we as humans are told to give each other. We pay in our taxes to rehabilitate humans into society, why on dogs.

Army dogs prepare for war

A team of army dogs and their handlers are about to be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to do roadside searches for bombs and booby traps. Over the last six months both the dogs and the soldiers have undertaken extensive training for operations and have been working extremely hard.
The dogs have been specially trained and the Ministry of Defence has spent £850,000 on 30 new kennels with sleeping and exercise areas with climate control. It will help us to better regulate the temperature that the dogs live in, meaning the dogs work better as they’re not too hot or cold. And having better accommodation for the dogs is helping them to prepare better.

Dog Found In Bin Bag

A female dog name Precious was found in a bin bag and dumped at the side of a bypass in Cannock, Staffordshire. Someone noticed fur poking out of the bin bag; the dog coat was so badly matted. She had years of neglect and still cannot stand after a week but has been showing some signs of improvement. The RSPCA said until she can stand her future is uncertain
Precious who is believed to be an eight or nine year old terrier cross is being look after in RSPCA kennels. The member of the public saved the life of the dog. Inspector Penny Wieland said I will never forget the condition and smell of the dog. Words cannot express how disgusted I am that someone could do this. The RSPCA said the dog was on fluids for 48 hours. But now she is eating, drinking and showing some signs of improvement.

Monica Hewitt Is Jailed For Animal Harm

Monica Hewitt who is a pony show judge from Derbyshire has been jailed for four months a Derby Magistrates Court for causing unnecessary suffering to 31 ponies and horses and four dogs. Philip Hickson Chairman of the bench said it was the "worst case of animal cruelty and neglect" he had seen.
Hewitt's daughter, Monica Hewitt was given a four month suspended sentence. She pleaded guilty to five counts of causing needless suffering to animals at an earlier hearing. Minica Hewitt helped her mother with the horses every day and was also given a 12 month community order.
